Play Poker Like a Pro By Avoiding These Common Mistakes |
|
Poker is a game of strategy. If you are new to the game try playing free poker online before you venture off to the tables at a casino. The old saying "practice makes perfect" is true, the more you practice playing poker the better you will be. You can't just expect to know how to play poker because you have learned all the rules; you will need to practice as well.
There are many mistakes that a new poker player can make. Even the best poker players make mistakes from time to time. These are a few common mistakes that many poker players make, making yourself aware of these mistakes will help you from making them as well.
One of the biggest mistakes poker players make is calling when they have a bad hand. Just because you have a face card doesn't mean that you will have the winning hand. You never know what the other players are holding, they could have been dealt a pair or have a higher face card.
Another thing to keep in mind while playing poker is to know when to fold the hand. For instance you might have been dealt an ace and a king, those are very strong cards. However if on the flop a 2, 7 and 9 are showing then your cards don't mean anything. It's very hard to fold an ace king but with low cards showing the chances of you winning are slim.
Bluffing too often is another mistake commonly made in poker tournaments and during poker games. Bluffing on a horrible hand but still managing to win the pot is exhilarating but don't let that over excite you causing you to bluff more. A rule of thumb to remember is the less that you bluff the more effective it will be when you do actually bluff.
Another mistake commonly made in the online poker world is switching games. You have the option to play Texas Hold'em, 7 Card Stud and Omaha on many poker websites. It's nice to switch up your game but by doing so you will not advance much in any of the three games. If you stick to playing the same game it will help you to increase your skill level.
If you are serious about improving your poker game you might want to consider attending a poker school. By avoiding these common mistakes though your poker playing skills should improve dramatically. |
